Wine stains are one of the most common stains and left untreated, a red wine stain can cause fatal damage to the beauty of a carpet.  Luckily if you need to remove a wine stain from a carpet at home, you can do so as long as you act fast.

Red Wine Stain Removal

Emergency Action: Sprinkle a red wine stain immediately with a generous amount of salt. Allow the salt to absorb the wine, then rinse the stained area with cool water.

Alternatively once the carpet or rug stain has been covered with salt and this has allowed to dry, vacuum it up.

White Wine Spills

For white wine spillages, ensure that you blot up as much of the spillage as you can and then sponge with cool water.

If you can launder a white wine spillage before it has dried, then it is not likely to stain. Apply an undiluted neutral liquid detergent and a few drops of white vinegar. Rinse.
